How It Works
We consult
We talk through your business, your risk, and your numbers, and recommend the structure that actually fits — not the one that's easiest to upsell.
We file
State formation, EIN, operating agreements or bylaws, and any tax elections — handled and confirmed, not just submitted and hoped for.
We keep you compliant
Bookkeeping, payroll, and tax strategy are included with our monthly service plans, set up right from the start, plus ongoing guidance so you don't miss a filing a year from now.
LaunchPoint vs. Online Filing vs. DIY
We won’t pretend the cheap options are always wrong for everyone. Here’s an honest look at where each approach actually wins.
| What Matters Most | Online Filing Services | DIY Yourself | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lowest upfront price | Priced for advice, not just a filing fee | Usually the cheapest sticker price | Cheapest — just the state fee |
| Speed for a genuinely simple case | Same filing speed, plus we confirm "simple" is actually true | Fast, automated intake | Fast if you already know exactly what to file |
| Help choosing the right entity | This is the core of what we do | Rarely — you self-select from a list | You're on your own |
| S-corp election timing & eligibility | We check timing and eligibility before filing | Usually not covered | Easy to miss the filing deadline |
| EIN, bookkeeping & payroll setup | Coordinated as part of formation | EIN sometimes included; bookkeeping/payroll rarely | All manual, all on you |
| Ongoing compliance | We track deadlines and tell you what's due | Automated reminder emails, no advice | Whatever you remember to check |
We do more than file paperwork. We help you build it right and keep it on track.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an LLC to start a business?
No — you can legally operate as a sole proprietorship with no filing at all. Whether an LLC is worth the added cost and paperwork depends on your liability exposure and how much you're earning. That's exactly the question we help you answer before you pay a state filing fee for the wrong entity.
What's the difference between an LLC and an S-corp?
An LLC is a legal entity. An S-corp is a tax election you can make on top of an LLC (or a corporation) once your profit is high enough to benefit from splitting income into salary and distributions. They aren't competing options — for many businesses the path is "form an LLC, elect S-corp status later."
Do your package prices include state filing fees?
No. State filing fees vary by state and are billed separately from our package price. We'll tell you exactly what your state charges before you pay for anything.
Are you a law firm?
No. LaunchPoint Advisors is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice, and using this site does not create an attorney-client relationship. For legal questions specific to your situation, we recommend consulting a licensed attorney.
Can I change my entity type later if I start with the wrong one?
Usually yes, but it's rarely free or instant — converting entities can trigger new filings, new tax elections, and sometimes tax consequences. It's almost always cheaper to get the structure right the first time, which is the whole reason we start with a consultation instead of just taking a filing order.
